I’m in the UK and I’ve noticed that a lot of the Assistant Accountant/trainee jobs are asking for part qualified but are realistically seeing candidates that are finalists or professional level students.
A recruitment consultant recently advised that employers love to see progression (experience of purchase ledger, credit control, bank reconcilliations etc) so don’t rule out any finance job.
I personally started on Sales ledger which used absolutey zero of my ACCA studies, however I got an Assitant Accountant job a few years later becasue I made it known I was studying ACCA and the role became available. If I could give just one bit of advice to anyone, as soon as you work with an accountant get your PER started ASAP. I’m an affiliate with none of my PER complete, lots of people ask about it when you mention ACCA on your CV.

Really sounds like you’ve burnt yourself out. Perhaps it’s the right time for a short break from studying?
August 17, 2015 at 3:22 pm #267522I’d say it was about 30% for the last exam. It felt like there was less number crunching than usual.
The calculations tend to be straight forward and become even less when you get yourself used to just calculating for “extras” (for example tax on an extra £3000 of income, rather than just producing a complete second income tax calculation).
Take a look at the past exam papers, it gives a really good indication of what to expect.
August 5, 2015 at 1:52 pm #265655After four and a half years I’m finally an affiliate. The help from opentuition played a huge part in this.
As a self study student, the lectures and course materials gave me the vital boost I needed to pass my exams. Both the lectures and the forums made me feel considerably less isolated throughout the journey. When times got tough and passing felt impossible, the extra tips in the lectures and being able to read about what other student were going through helped me keep my sanity and put my frustrations into perspective.
I’m still recommending you to any student I speak to, I hope to hang around for a bit to try and “pay it forward”.

August 5, 2015 at 1:38 pm #265650I had a look at the BPP website who claim 96% of ACCA students pass with BPP. The small print attached to that comment is:
“The 96% is based on part time P3 students sitting in December 2013 at our Reading centre”
I wonder what their pass rate has been since 2013 (and in other centres).

July 24, 2015 at 4:14 pm #261738We have a lot of theories circulating at every results run up. Can we create a thread after the results have been received to address some of the same points that keep coming up?
For example post pass/fail alongside the date of the report/blanked out portal pages etc. It could be interesting to:
a) see if there are any connections
b) have one source of information to look back on in the future to stop people from panicking unnecesarily.
Might be handy for the site/mods to calm fellow students nerves. A couple have mentioned that they follow these occurances every session so would know exactly what ask about.

I can’t request a certificate, but a lot of functionality has been stripped from the portal (account administration, update personal details etc).
I failed P6 in Dec-14, however I felt happier when I re-sat the exam Jun-15. That confidence takes a nose dive in the run up to results day!

July 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm #261406I usually plan my study session backwards from the exam.
Firstly I decide which evenings/days I’m going to study and starting from Exam day plan my mocks plus all of the past papers I can find for each session working backwards. It usually leaves me two months from the exam. Then I count backwards and do the same with the revision sessions in my Study kit.
All this leaves me a deadline to get reading/lectures/articles etc to be completed.
I try and schedule in a random two weeks off for the random things that seem to pop up or stop me from studying.
I’ve found that this way I have lots of time for past papers and questions which for me personally is the best way to revise.
Only downside is when your friends tease you for having a schedule for four months of your life 🙂

I use the IMEI number from the BPP website to make sure I have the correct edition.
June 25, 2015 at 10:13 am #258808I did P1 and P2 together. It’s definitiely doable, I passed both, however it was an incredibly stressful sitting due to the P2 study.
Could you take advantage of the new sittings and stagger the exams? Give yourself a few months for just P2.

You’re approaching the summit of mountain, lost a few finger and toes to frostbite but the end is in sight. If you don’t make the last push you won’t get to be one of the ones who can say they scaled it. (/Mountaineering analogy)
Could you take a complete break from study for a sitting or two? Recharge your batteries and come at them again only refreshed. Stress really makes your mind really foggy and make the papers seem like a bigger beast than they are. You definitely need a break if it’s damaging your personal life.
About the exams:
I took the same options as you. I passed P5 in Dec sitting (but failed P6) and sat P6 again in June. In my opinion the two exams needed a different approach. P5 revision was all about practicing past papers to get used to the style of questions, this also reinforced the basic rote learning part as well.P6 was all about pure rote learning the rules, the past papers were very useful for structuring answers and picking out information, but not as useful as testing myself/learning all of the rules. Past papers alone didn’t cover enough of the P6 syllabus for me to attain a pass. Once you’ve locked in the rules, the questions seem less mystifying.
Nothing worth attaining is ever easy. Even the act of learning how to deal with stress/failure is a useful tool. Stay strong and let us know how you’re getting on. There are a lot of us going through similar feelings 🙂
February 5, 2015 at 1:54 pm #225349Hi Jess, I have the same issue. ACCA turn off a lot of the portal functionality around exam results time.
A few sessions back people could change their password and the email would come from student@acca or member@acca revealing that a finalist had passed or failed. I suspect this link is switched off to plug the leak 🙂
February 4, 2015 at 3:38 pm #225232I work FT and usually study for two exams per sitting. As sad as it sounds, I create a 5 month timetable and I include definite free days for spending with my husband. The main reason I do this is because I know I can obsess over studying. It was especially bad when I did P2 and I felt I was struggling.
It helps to let them know what to expect in terms of time and attention. I’m sure despite this he still feels a little neglected. He understands why I want to do this, also that it wont be forever.
Without doubt my spouse/marriage is more important than ACCA. I’ve never felt it was and either/or situation.
